Caoimhe McKearney - Violin and Caller

BA (Hons) (Cantab), LLM (London)

Caoimhe grew up in the beautiful rolling countryside of Co. Tyrone, with a John Deere tractor and a series of pet lambs for company.  Surrounded by an abundance of fine traditional musicians, she quickly turned her hand to the fiddle, learning with Brid Harper, Gerry O’Connor and Meabh O’Hare.  Whilst still at school, Caoimhe reached the All-Ireland finals of the prestigious Siansa competition for emerging young folk talent.

Fearing that a Music degree might not provide quite so many nice dinners, Caoimhe opted instead to read Law at Clare College, Cambridge.  There, she devoted most of her time to her role as President of the Cambridge University Ceilidh Band, achieving a record ten May Ball performances in May Week 2009. Caoimhe’s personal highlight was the fine cheese selection at St John’s May Ball, ranked 7th best party in the world by Time Magazine.

Graduating top of her year with First Class Honours, Caoimhe’s entertaining wit and impressive powers of advocacy (by day, she's a practising barrister) will ensure that even the most reluctant dancer soon takes to the floor for an evening of unparalleled ceilidh action.
