Jane South - Flute

BMus (Hons) (RWCMD)

Jane, who hails from deepest Dorset, is a master melody player of extraordinary talent.  As teenage girls are wont to do, Jane opted for the shiniest instrument in the orchestra, and quickly became known across the South West as a skilled flautist, dividing her time between classical recitals and folk rock.  Collecting a string of prizes and awards, she trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying classical and jazz performance, improvisation and composition.

Jane’s professional orchestral work includes Welsh National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Sinfonia Cymru and Sinfonietta North East, as well as theatre work and recording sessions around the UK. She has appeared as a soloist at the Steve Reich Festival and at the prestigious Purcell School of Music.  She’s also a regular on the folk festival circuit, with appearances at Sidmouth, Cambridge, Gosport, Wimborne, Chippenham and Trowbridge under her belt.

When she’s not performing, Jane enjoys writing her own brand of crazy folk music.  She also really loves marzipan and competitive welly boot-throwing.
